Norma Ellen Armstrong, 92, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at her home in McIntire, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 1, 2021, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville, IA with Father Jerry Kopacek officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Riceville. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.
She was born on December 17, 1928 in Flandreau, South Dakota to Oscar and Tena (Rogne) Kulsrud. Norma graduated from LeRoy High School in 1946. After graduation she worked at Hormel in Austin, MN.
Norma was united in marriage to Thomas Armstrong in 1950 in Chicago, IL. To this union five children were born. Norma drove school bus for the Riceville Community School District for 25 years, retiring in 2002. She and her husband were small business owners in McIntire and Chester, IA for several years. Norma served on the McIntire City Council, was an election official, a member of St. Mels Rosary Society in McIntire and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville. She enjoyed playing bingo with her friends, cross-stitching, working in her yard and decorating her home in a different theme each month. Above all else, Norma‘s greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren family get togethers.
Norma is survived by her children Debra (Greg) Conger of Riceville, Thomasine Conger (Danny Warner) of Riceville, Scott Armstrong, Rosemary Armstrong and Amy Armstrong all of Rochester, MN. Grandchildren – Tena, Joseph (Morgan), Thomas (Nikki), Christopher (Sarah), Ashley Conger and Nicholas Armstrong (Alexis Groux); Great-grandchildren Caden, Emmett, Kami, Clayton, McCoy, Greyson, Mason and Madison.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband Thomas on February 20, 1990, her parents, brothers Norman, Orville and Ozzie and her sisters Lila, Violet, Doris and Ruth Jane.
