Phyllis Therneau Obituary

Phyllis Lou Thernaeau, age 93, of Grand Meadow, MN passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Mayo Clinic- St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester, MN.

Phyllis was born February 1, 1928 in Fountain, MN to Orval Wolfe and Evelyn (Lieberg) Wolfe. She

attended country school in Fountain and Preston High School, graduating in 1946. She worked as a   Lab Tech at Mayo Clinic following high school.  After being introduced by a mutual friend, she married the love of her life, Glode Therneau, on August 20, 1949 in her family home in Fountain. Together they raised 4 children in Grand Meadow, MN.

For Phyllis, raising her children was the joy of her life. While raising her children she was very active in boy scouts, girl scouts, PTA, and her church. She kept busy with church circle, bake sales, teaching Sunday school, and serving at countless church dinners and funerals. Her delicious homemade pies were always a highlight at church functions. She was also always a ready helper when it came time for the annual church cleaning. She could always be counted on whenever needed.

Phyllis was a special partner to Glode while he farmed. Her smile always welcomed the baby lambs he would bring to town to be cared for and she couldn't resist a kitten or puppy. The new baby pigs brought laughter as she would delight in their curly pink tails; she truly loved animals. She managed farm finances and custom farmed for many years after Glode passed away and he would have been so proud of her. She loved her flower gardens, gardening and canning. She loved to bake and her rhubarb torte and corned beef hotdish were the best! She loved shopping and family trips. She delighted in her children’s weddings and took many road trips over the years with Glode to visit their families. She also loved to read and in recent years, with her failing eyesight, she would listen to her talking books for hours.

Phyllis was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother; she was everything you could ever want a mom to be. Her family was always the most important thing in her life. She was overjoyed when the grandchildren and great-grandchildren came and her hugs were unending. She loved it when family came to visit and her love for them will never be forgotten; it was her legacy to them and she will be dearly missed.

Phyllis is survived by her four children: Steven (Mary) Therneau of Grand Rapids, MN; Kathleen (Charles) Thielen of Elk River, MN.; Mark Therneau of Plainview, MN; and Lisa (Glen) Kaiser of Rochester, MN; twelve grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol (Mervin)  Heidtke of  Fountain, MN; a brother, Richard (Linda) Wolfe of Preston, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Glode, in 1994; and her much loved daughter-in-law, Patricia (Wolf) Therneau.
