Ramona A. (Ruud) Gilbert

Ramona A. Gilbert, 84, of Spring Valley, MN, died on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Ostrander Care and Rehab from Alzheimer’s.

Ramona Angeline Ruud was born June 7, 1937 to Albert and Vivian (Hegg) Ruud. She graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1955 and the same year on August 1st she married George “Roger” Gilbert.  Ramona spent her life as a homemaker and was a wonderful cook and baker, and was also famous for her homemade donuts.  She was very proud of the fact that she made her children and husband 3 home-cooked meals a day.  Family was the most important thing in life to Ramona and she was a loyal and devoted mother and grandmother.  Her children and grandchildren came first and she never missed an event for them.  Ramona also enjoyed going to garage sales, and she and her sisters with all their children would often drive to Austin, MN to find good garage sales.  Ramona was a founding member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spring Valley and was a Sunday school teacher for many years.  She was a loyal parishioner, never missing a service until her disease progressed and she was not able to attend.

Ramona is survived by her children Roger D. (Susan) Gilbert of Spring Valley and Lavonne (Steven Kraling) Knutson of Ostrander, MN, sister Cindy Johnson of Spring Valley, brother-in-law Bob Grabau of Stewartville, MN, 7 grandchildren Kristopher (Megan) Knutson and their children Dominic, Nora, and Nash, Sarah (Justin) Mlinar and their children Dylan, Emily, Katelyn, Mason, and Mollie, Katie (Brian) Bernard and their children Jackson, Hunter, Charlotte, and Hazel, Jacob (Juanita) Gilbert and their children Carter, Olivia, and Sophia, Braden (Gretchen) Knutson and their children Chase, Cullen, and Gretta, Amanda (Dan) Cummings and their children Jace, Riley, and Cora, and Cody Knutson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roger in 2013, daughter Lucy in infancy, son-in-law Bradley Knutson, great-grandson Joseph Mlinar, brother Orville (Dianne) Ruud, 4 sisters Alleen (Dick) Watson, Veronica Ruud, Pauline (John) Queensland, and Priscilla (Roger) Dyreson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spring Valley with Pastor Betsy Dartt officiating. Burial will take place in Spring Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, January 16th at Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley and will continue for 1 hour at the church prior to the service on Monday.

Family suggests memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association for research.
