Richard "Dick" Block

Richard John “Dick” Block, age 72, of Elma, IA died Sunday January 14, 2024 at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Methodist Campus in Rochester. Dick was born February 04, 1951 in Cresco, IA to John and Hannah (Renz) Block. He attended and graduated from Riceville High School in 1969. Over the years Dick was a heavy equipment operator working for Carroll Construction for the last 20 + years before his retirement. On April 24, 1999 he was united in marriage to Vickie (Hellickson) Hofner. She passed away April 15, 2021 He enjoyed attending auction sales, tractor pulls, local town celebrations and parades, fixing John Deere lawn mowers, gardening and social gatherings with family and friends.

He is survived by his step children: Miki (Randy) Runde of Riceville, IA and Jason (Lacy) Hofner of Warrens, WI. Grandchildren: Haley and Emily Hofner of LeRoy, MN, Jordan Runde of Riceville, IA, Kaden Dohlman, Abby Dohlman and Allie Schrepfer  all of Warrens, WI, a brother: Dennis Block of Elma, IA and a sister-in-law Alvina Block of Cresco, IA.  He is also survived by the following nieces and nephews:

Dianna Block (Tim Morris) of Onalaska, Wisconsin, Renita (Jack) Tesch of Backus, Minnesota, Suzan (Gary) Strahl of Chatfield, Minnesota, Andrew (Deb) Block of Orchard, Iowa, Daniel Block (Dalynn Melver) of Lebanon, MO, Phyllis (Gene) Climer of Lebanon, Missouri, brother-in law, Craig Lines of Chetek, Wisconsin, Beth (Jeff) Young of Waterloo, Iowa, Carol (Steve) Meade of Holmen, Wisconsin, Ed Block of Rowley, Iowa, Karl Block of Elma, Iowa, Marie (Bob) Rasmussen of Waterloo, Iowa, Marge (Isaac) Richmond of Sumner, Iowa, and Margaret Block of Cresco, Iowa

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Vickie Block, a brother Paul Block, and a niece Marsha Lines and a nephew Paul Block Jr.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday January 19, 2024 at St Peters Lutheran Church in Elma, IA with Rev Bruce Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Elma Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until time of service at the church on Friday.

In Lieu of flowers the family prefers memorial to St Peters Lutheran Church in Elma, IA.
