Roger Morse Obituary

 Roger Dale Morse died Monday January 1, 2024 at Wildwood Grove in LeRoy, MN at the age of 90. Roger returned to LeRoy this past fall, and enjoyed reconnecting with his roots. He received excellent care at Wildwood Grove! Roger was born October 30, 1933 at home in LeRoy, MN to Morton P. Morse and Lydia (Oakland) Morse. He was baptized at home December 24, 1933 and confirmed at the LeRoy Lutheran Church. He attended LeRoy Public Schools and graduated in 1951. He was active in sports and band. He attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN and graduated in 1955. He attended The University of Illinois in Urbana for one year and then attended The University of Minnesota Medical School, graduating in 1960. Roger did one year of internship at Mountainview General Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. On September 7, 1958 he married Carol Hegstad at The First Methodist Church in Austin, MN and together they raised three children. Carol died May 31, 2008. In 1961, Roger joined his father’s medical practice in LeRoy. Roger had patients from the surrounding area and cared for hospital patients in Spring Valley, MN, Austin, MN and Osage, IA. He also served patients at nursing homes in Grand Meadow MN, Spring Valley MN, Ostrander MN, Adams MN and Riceville IA. Roger sold his practice to The Austin Medical Center/Mayo and worked for them for one year before he retired in 1998. In 2003, Roger and Carol moved to Rochester MN. He enjoyed helping son Jeff in his landscaping business and helped build many brick patios. Roger was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church. He enjoyed collecting antiques, fishing and spending time with his family and special friend “Jan”. Survivors include his three children, Jeff (Dawn) Morse of Racine MN, Greg Morse of Kasson MN and Susan (James) Eggerichs of Lime Springs IA; 5 grandchildren Rebecca (Alex) Arndorfer, Trevor Morse, Gabrielle (Megan Collis) Morse, Jarrett Spilde and Justin (Dawn Benttine) Spilde; 2 great-grandchildren Ellie and Remi Arndorfer. Other survivors include one sister Lois Wold, sister-in-law Jean (Lee) Hehl, special friend Jeanette “Jan” Ramseth, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carol, daughter-in-law Jeanne, brothers Elwin, Keith and Norval and brother-in-law Charles “Chuck” Wold. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at the LeRoy Lutheran Church, in LeRoy, MN, Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy and will continue Saturday morning at the church from 10-11 am. Committal and burial will be at LeRoy MN Lutheran cemetery following the service. The family prefers memorials to LeRoy Lutheran Church, Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Rochester, MN, Wildwood Grove in LeRoy or the donor’s choice.
