Ronald Duryee Obituary

Ronald R. Duryee, 82, of Riceville, died April 23, 2019 at Riceville Community Rest Home.

Funeral service will be held at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Homes in Riceville on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.  Inurnment with military honors will be in Wayne Cemetery in Riceville.

Ronald was born October 28, 1936, the son of Pearl (Backus) and Gernard Duryee, in LeRoy, MN.  He attended McIntire Schools.  He earned his GED in the Navy. He enlisted in the Navy in 1956.  He married Marilyn Klatt at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco, IA.  The couple lived in San Diego, CA.  He served 4 years in the Navy and he received his honorable discharge as Engineman 3rd Class Petty Officer, in 1960.

They moved to Iowa, he was a Depot Agent for the Chicago Great Western Railroad for 8 years.  They started taking out depots, senority, was first.  He then worked for Meinerz/Beatrice Creamery in Fredericksburg, IA.  He moved to Riceville in 1998 and retired November 1999, having worked 31 years. He enjoyed flying battery operated airplanes, fishing, gardening and visiting family.         

He is survived by his children: Kenneth of Roy, Utah, Steven of Ogden, Utah, Robert of Iowa City, Iowa, Randal of Plainfield, IA; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; his brothers Wayne of Osage, IA, Leonard of Leland, IA, sisters, Diane Semerad of Cresco, IA, Barbara Woolworth of Cresco, IA, Donna Wilson of Rochester, MN, Cherie Landers of Greene, IA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Katherine in infancy, brothers Marvin, Verne, Darrell, Gordon and James and also a nephew Richard Hahn, Jr.
