Wayne Bottolfson Obituary

Wayne Melvin Bottolfson, aged 80, of Riceville, peacefully passed away at Colonial Manor of Elma, Iowa on Wednesday, February 21st, 2024, surrounded by his daughters.

Born on April 6th, 1943, in Edina, MN, to Melvin and Elva Bottolfson. Wayne attended school in River Falls, WI, graduating from River Falls High School in 1961.  In 1964 he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as a truck mechanic from 1964 to 1968. He was stationed at Wheeler Air Force Base in Hawaii and Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Following his military service, Wayne returned to River Falls, WI, where he later married Sharon Meacham of Ellsworth, WI. The new couple moved to Riceville, IA, and from this union, two children were born: Tricia (Bottolfson) Rotta of Faribault, MN and Angela (Bottolfson) McKenna of Riceville, IA.

Wayne worked for a newspaper in Preston, Minnesota, and Mosier Doors. In 1976, he joined Farmers Feed and Grain in Riceville, dedicating himself until retirement.  In 2006, Wayne underwent a life-changing liver transplant, an experience he was immensely grateful for and proud of. He would enthusiastically share pictures of it with anyone who asked, and often with those who didn't. A proud member of AA for many years, Wayne cherished his sobriety.

Throughout his retirement years, Wayne could be found driving around the tri-state area. He had no reservations about stopping for a chat if he spotted you anywhere - whether at businesses, homes, or on the road. That was simply who he was.

"Every day is a good day!" Wayne Bottolfson.

Wayne is survived by his daughters Tricia (Mike) Rotta of Faribault, MN, Angela McKenna of Riceville, IA; grandchildren Ashley, Logan, and Brandon Rotta all of Faribault, MN, Jasmin McKenna of Colorado, Courtney (Brian) Reicks, Marissa McKenna, and Riley McKenna all of Riceville, IA; great grandchildren Kaden and Elliana Reicks, and McKenna Jo Rollie; sister Joyce McKahan of River Falls, WI; brother Lonny Bottolfson of River Falls, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Scott Wayne Bottolfson, father Melvin Peter Bottolfson, mother Elva Hillebrandt, brothers Darel and Glen Bottolfson, sister Marilyn Klingensmith, and nieces Jean (McKahan) Getzie, Karla (Klingensmith) Colegrove, and Karen (Klingensmith) Brunkhorst.
