Ben M. Stevenson

Ben M. Stevenson, age 70, of McIntire, Iowa died April 9, 2016 at his home.

A Celebration of Life will be held 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the Riceville Country Club in Riceville, Iowa. Burial will be in Wayne Cemetery, McIntire, Iowa at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, April 14, 2016. Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 407 Woodland Ave., Riceville, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

Ben was born June 25, 1945, in Riceville, Iowa, the son of Ben H. and Harriet (Volkart) Stevenson. He graduated from Riceville Community High School in 1963.  He enlisted in the US Army from 1969-1971.  Ben worked at Behr Iron & Metal (formerly LeRoy Iron & Metal) for 26 years until his death.  Ben enjoyed golfing, bowling, and spending time with friends and family (especially his 4 granddaughters).

On February 3, 1973, Ben was married to Brenda Hockens in McIntire, Iowa, at St. Mel's Catholic Church. 

Survivors include wife, Brenda, of McIntire; three sons, Jamie Stevenson of Woodbury, MN; Brendan (Andrew) Stevenson of Darien, CT; and Jared Stevenson of McIntire, IA; four granddaughters, Emma, Sidney, Isabella and Harper; one sister, Elizabeth "Libby" Wherry of Riceville, IA; one brother, Richard (Sara) Stevenson of Sheffield, IA; sisters-in-law, Ida Rowe of LeRoy, MN; Julie (Rod) Jacobs of Minnetonka, MN; brother-in-law, Jim (Bonnie) Hockens of Oronoco, MN; and many nieces & nephews.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Perry and Vivian Hockens; one brother, William Stevenson; three sisters, Margaret "Peggy" Lockhart, Virginia Stevenson, and Trudie Lienhard; sister-in-law, Sandy Kozak.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be given to Howard County Hospice.
